Today’s run was boring!
Well, not to like tears or anything, but just kinda “eh.”
Part of the problem is that my headphones stopped working. I have other headphones, but these ones have a handy button on them that skips through the lame songs I’m too lazy to take off of my phone. I like that button. I need that button. I have other headphones. They don’t have the button.
I don’t know about you, but I cannot run to the Climb Ev’ry Mountain Reprise from Sound of Music. What’s the weirdest song you’ve run to?
(UPDATE: Engineer husband plugged my headphones in and the stupid things worked. Freaking bastard headphones. Sorry headphones, I don’t mean that, please keep working.)
The other part of the problem is I am missing my lunchtime running buddy, Mel. YES. I know it has been a year (I think) since she changed jobs and, therefore, moved to an office far away, but I still miss her. I miss running with buddies sometimes. I would say I enjoy running alone a majority of the time, but sometimes it’s nice to have someone to chat with–especially during an easy run when you don’t need to focus on what you’re doing. You know?
Anyway, today I officially started training for Rock ‘N’ Roll Seattle half thanks to Mel! Coach Mel sent me a great plan to get me to my 1:50 goal. I loved using her plan for my last PR-attempt, a sub-2, way back in 2011. I still need to fill the plan in with biking and swimming workouts since I have the Dilettante Women’s Tri the weekend before the half. I have extremely altered my expectations for the tri, by the way.
Once upon a time, I wanted to try to win my age group. But lately, I got really scared thought really hard about it and decided I should aim to finish–give everything I got, but not worry about where I come in. So, I’ve given myself permission to slack a little. I’ve been riding my bike on the trainer about 3x per week, but have not been swimming in months. Eek.
Well, that’s all I have. Wow! This post totally matched my run this afternoon. Guess I’m just having a super boring kind of day!
Actually, I had a pretty interesting day. It actually felt like a real art department as me, our designer and our PM were having a super intense conversation about how to present a future product on retail shelves. Good stuff.
But maybe the best part of the day was making a taco salad for lunch with leftovers. I love tacos; they are probably my favorite meal (and a taco salad runs a close second). AND it totally reminded me of those Real Men of Genius radio ads for Bud Light. Remember Mr. Taco Salad Inventor? OMG. Here you go:
How was your day? Did you run? Do you love tacos?

I miss you too!! And running with buddies on the weekends too.. You will be GREAT on that training plan, believe in yourself always my friend!
Damn! 1:50!!!! You go girl! That course is tough too. I won’t be there to hold you back at a port a potty (although that was one of my favorite first halves of a half).
LOL!
MMM TACO SALADDDDDDDDDDDD #dirtybird
I’m with you on all of that! Except the whole ‘trying to win my age group’…HA! Isn’t that skip button the best?? I discovered that it also activates Siri if I hold it down and I’ve managed to listen to and send out a couple of texts on my longer runs!
You can totally hit 1:50, no doubt about it. Train smart and be happy!
Weirdest song to run to….? I have a few on my ipod that come to mind, that people think I am weird when they hear it. I have some christmas music on there…TransSiberian Orchestra…not the stuff with lyrics, but some of the more fast paced ones “Christmas eve” it’s awesome. The other is I have some of the sounds from the Blue Man group soundtrack… it’s got a weird technovibe but some good running tunes
