Day 134: Seattle Half Marathon Eve

  • Kerrie

Last night, before I climbed into bed, me and Mr. T watched the 11 o’clock news. We never watch the 11 o’clock news. I’m not usually up that late, but after a nighttime holiday shopping trip and a last-minute check for a rainproof running vest (no luck), I was up a little later than normal.

I was so glad I was up because I got to see the forecast for Sunday. Guess what?

NO RAIN!!!! I can’t tell you what a relief that is. I’m not normally nervous about rain, but I was just really wishing for dry weather because of my recent wardrobe malfunctions (see here and here). So, I went to sleep late, but happy and got up later than normal.

This morning, as I made my coffee and toast at 8 a.m., I thought, Tomorrow, I’ll be running my first half marathon. It hadn’t sunk in yet, though.

It has now. Now that I’ve texted back and forth with Heather deciding what time we should leave. Now that I’ve set out all my clothes and accessories for tomorrow morning. Now that I’ve finished my playlist. Now that I’ve stressed over a million details.

For example, do I really have to wear the chip on my ankle like I’m on home arrest? Can I fasten it to my shoe? And, do I want to check clothes? Can I check clothes? Because I didn’t pick up an official clothes check bag at the expo yesterday. Noob mistake. What should I do about my new fuel belt vs. my old one?

I wore my new one from iFitness today on a quick run and I really liked it. I went for an easy 30 minutes and it only moved around once — when I tried to tuck my gloves into the strap — and it had my phone and my Zune in it. I won’t have gloves tomorrow; I will be wearing my trusty REI shirt and I’ll put my phone in my shirt pocket tomorrow so that I can take pictures and update my Facebook status. I plan on texting while running, but we’ll see how it goes.

By the way, I sported my new Seattle Marathon 09 shirt on my run today. I hope that’s not bad luck or anything. I was glad I had it because it is long-sleeved, which was perfect for today’s gloomy, cold weather. Only a few light sprinkles fell while I was outside, but I barely even noticed them.

I’m starting to get a little nervous, but mostly about logistics. Once I am running, I’ll feel much better.

PS: If you want to see how slow I’m going tomorrow and you have nothing better to do and you are up that early on a Sunday (and not because you are at church), then you can go here and enter my bib number: 10451.
