Day 243: Remember that One Time I Caught a Cold Right Before My Second Half Marathon?

  • Kerrie

I bet that’s what I’ll be sayin’ someday. Because I’m pretty sure I have a cold.

I felt fine earlier today. Just tired, which I’ve been blaming on Daylight Saving Time. Now, I have a hint of a sore throat, a headache, phlegm, freezing feet and an aching body.

Thank goodness I didn’t have all that for my run this afternoon, which I’m calling the St. Patty’s Day Lunch Hour Dash. It took me 15 minutes to change into my running clothes, which only left 45 minutes for running and changing back into my street clothes. So, I had to go fast!

3/17/10 – 3.11 Miles – 29.18
Mile 1: 9:46
Mile 2: 9:29
Mile 3: 9:11
.11: 7:54 pace/mile

(Actually supposed to do 6 today, but I’m taking it easy before the race.)

It felt good not pushing a jogging stroller. I swung my arms and stretched my legs out for this one. I think lengthening my stride helped me go faster. I hope to remember that during the half on Sunday.

I haven’t talked much about my goals for the race. I guess that’s ’cause I don’t really have any except to beat my time from my first half!

Did you wear green for your St. Patty's Day Dash? Those are some nice splits! I'm sorry to hear about your cold. Rest up and feel better.

You have MONTHS of training to get you through this. Just get lots of rest and fluids…and Vit C. 🙂

Why do people get sick right before races? I've been drinking lots of OJ and trying to eat well because I'm so afraid I'll get sick right before the race. Get better!
