Jogging in the evening is okay, but I prefer the morning. Gets it out of the way.
However, I was kind of excited for tonight because I wouldn’t be pushing 20+ pounds of wriggling toddler. But I also was sort of lonely. I didn’t have anyone to point things out to, there wasn’t someone there to say “hi” to the neighbors for me or to giggle when I breathed loudly.
And, I was kind of annoyed when I first started out because a headache was developing. And the sun, which had not completely disappeared behind every roofline, kept blinding me like a little kid with a flashlight and a mean streak. Not helpful.
At least Gwen and Christina and Pink were able to keep me strong on my 50-minute workout in and out and in and out of the cul-de-sacs. Ugh. (I was too chicken to take the trail when the sun was going down, so I had to tough it out on the sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.)
I took my Zune with me, but I don’t have one of those fancy armbands to attach it to myself. I just had to hold it and it got all sweaty in the palm of my right hand. And, I didn’t have time to plan a play list, so I just listened to whatever was in the Pop genre. Besides the three talented ladies I just mentioned, there was a little bit of Cake, Phil Collins (I know; odd; I skipped him), and U2.
In my amateur opinion, Ms. Stefani has the best jogging music. It’s fast and loud and happy. Kind of like a certain someone I was missing tonight.

I am TOTALLY with you about the running the cul-de-sacs when it gets dark. My husband is terrified of me running by myself at night, so I have this loop that I do a couple times…and it's annoying to see the same scenery after awhile. But you're definitely NOT a chicken for not taking the trail. 🙂 My iPhone/iPod runs with me in my hand, too. I also use it to track my run with Trailguru (an iPhone app), which also keeps track of my time. Since my hands get so sweaty, I put it in a little ziploc baggy. 🙂 Not the greatest fashion accessory, but it saves the gadget!
Thanks for the great tip, Zoe!
