Eights are the New Nines

  • Kerrie

I am feeling light on my feet and am loving having some speed. In fact, I think a pace in the 8s is my new “fast.”

I used always want to be in the 9s if I was trying for some speed, but today I tried to keep my entire 4.4-mile run in the 8s and I was able to do it. And on the dreadmill, too (which is always harder for me).

A BIG part of this is my weight. It’s coming down. I hit 153 this morning, which means I only have 8 pounds to go.

I feel like a whole new runner! Like if I want to turn on some speed, I can. This is a new feeling for me, which is why I keep talking about it (sorry!). I haven’t felt this good about my running since high school (although a pace in the 8s was probably my slow run then, but whatever!).

I’ve come a long way, since the post-baby-belly-backpain-blues in 2009! Since Saturday, July 18, when I walked-ran for 20 minutes and was dying. When I weighed close to 200 pounds.

I guess I hadn’t really stopped to think about that till now. Huh.

It's amazing how weight make such a differance! You don't even realize it until you look at your pace! Weigh (way) to GO! I'm so funny!

Congrats. From a guy who lost lots of weight, I know what you went through and it's lots of hard work.

Just was checking out some blogs and came across yours. I'm really impressed with your times! I started running after having my two bundles and haven't looked back. What else did you do to get faster??? Great job!

Agree with all you are working your way there and totally coming into your own. I CLEARLY notice it because you are asking me to run with you….pretty sure you used to avoid me and my 8's 🙂

Congrats Kerrie! OMG, I can totally relate! When I started wogging (walk/jogging), I was a whopping 220!!! I remember thinking 11's were good, wow-I just hit 10's, 9's are awesome… and now I just hit an average pace in the 8's for my last race (high 8's, but I've NEVER seen that before!) It really is so exciting to see progress. I can't wait until we hit our weight goals… and watch those speedy legs go, go, go!! LOL
