So, while I was sick, I ordered some more triathlon books. I finished Chrissie Wellington’s A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS, and downloaded SWIM, BIKE, MOM on my Kindle. Then I ordered up Joe Friel’s THE TRIATHLETE’S TRAINING BIBLE because even while I couldn’t work out, I could plan my work outs.
I’m a total nerd for exercise science. If only I could do college over again. So, I was eating up the first 60 or so pages of Joe’s book, but when I got to the part of doing the performance and time trials, he lost me. It’s just a teeny bit too much for me.
Part of my problem is that I haven’t done a triathlon. It’s hard to set performance goals when I have no data from previous races. But the time trials seem really difficult and requires equipment I don’t have. I think I can do the basic time trials to, at least, get some info. And I think I can still make my own plan with his book.
But, man, it really made me think that having a triathlon coach would be a lot easier. I wish I had the funds for a coach, but my guess is that I don’t. I might, at least, look into it, though.
Do you use a coach? Where did you get your triathlon plan from? Are you still sick? Everyone has the flu! I’m better, but my chest is still a teeny bit congested/tight. Still planning on a long(ish), slow run tomorrow. After the Seahawks game, of course. After because it’s too cold to be running early in the morning with my tight/congested lungs. It’s been in the 20s! When is it going to warm up so I can ride Hot Wheels* outside?!
*Hot Wheels is the name my son came up with for my bike.

I hope you feel better. Yes, it is super frosty outside right now. Good idea to wait until after the game:) Go Hawks!!
**Hot Wheels** love it! H-dub!
I am so not a triathlete, but you do know that I’ve swum? laps at least 4 times now…
I’m looking forward to reading about how you train for your first tri, even if I never ever do one myself.
Not a triathlete, honestly it scares me. So many factors to success there! As far as the flu, I’m so terrified of getting it I’m trying not to eat anything in public and/or hand sanitizing myself constantly. Eeeks. Get well soon!
That game was a heart-breaker!!
I normally get my training plans from Beginnertriathlete.com. This season I’ve been lucky enough to have a friend/coach make one for me 🙂
