Thank you for the advice on my last post about physical therapy. I wore my running shorts. And a big thank you to Virtual Running Buddy and MvM FB friend Suzanne for recommending a physical therapist. Monday’s appointment was a success!
Plus, I got to meet Suzanne…an awesome mom-runner herself!
Chelsea, my fill-in parental guardian, was not able to make my appointment. It was okay, though, because I am over 18 years old and I do have my own insurance…well, it’s Mr. T’s, but you get the picture. Chels, you would’ve been bored hearing all about my symptoms and aches and my hip anteversion and my freakish big toes…oh wait, that’s what I talk about on here.
Well, anyway, if you’re still reading and want to hear about it, I’ll post more details about the cause of my shin soreness later. For now, the short story:
It’s basically GOOD. I can run my little 30-minute runs during the week and I can do a shorter long run (make sense?) on Sunday. I must ice afterward, and I must work on the muscle memory exercises that I was given. I will go back next week to see my PT again or, hopefully, get evaluated by their running expert, who helped Suzanne go from walking with a cane to Boston. Amazing!
Thanks so much for all the comments and the advice and well-wishes. I love the running community. Such nice people, so supportive of each other. Thank you!
If I can pass on anything that I learned today, it would be to look into ways of preventing what ails you. Don’t run through it. It’s okay to be a little paranoid.

Awesome Kerrie! I'm so glad you were cleared to run. It sounds like you chose a great PT to work with. Let me know what exercises and tips they give you. I can use all the help I can get!
looks like the pt will help you. remember, take small steps. i believe in you.
Good news on being able to run, but remember to take it slow and not push through any recurring pain!
Good news! Thanks for the reminder to not push through the pain. Glad you're taking care of it.
Glad to hear it went well! I had the weirdest shinpain for a while that ended up being shin splints. After 2 PT appts and using dixie cup icers after each run (and the exercises the PT gave me), the pain went away completely! I hope it goes the same for you.
It's good news, right? You can still run and your legs have a lot of miles in them so it's not like you will be starting from scratch or anything.Things happen for a reason and sometimes it takes a while for us to realize. Sucks that T Jr had to take one for the team but not running 20 was probably for the best for you. It's tough for me not to run through things, to be honest. My heel for instance flares up and I just have run through it in the past. Gotta try and ease up on that more 🙂
AH!!!! so glad you can run!! Don't skimp on the PT exercises, but you know that!I'm pretty curious about the cause of all this. You just wanted to have a cliff hanger too didn't you? =)
oh good. I am glad that you can still do some running….
glad it went so well:)
I'm happy you can do little 30-minutes runs, because I know I would go crazy if I wouldn't be able to run at all!
