I’ve been icing and Ibuprofining like a madwoman. The shin is holding up. It feels pretty normal. Yay!
Yesterday, I went on an annual garage-sale extravaganza with some friends to this giant neighborhood that coordinates its sales. We basically walked all day (9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). I wore my running shoes with my orthotics because I knew we’d be walking a lot. I’m such a nerd, but I also wore my compression socks under my jeans. I iced and took Ibuprofin before I left my house that morning.
I’m not taking any chances, people!
It ended up being the warmest day of the year so far — probably 70. The forecast had called for rain and thundershowers so, like I said, I was in jeans (with my RunLove socks underneath). I was freaking hot! Luckily, I had short sleeves on. But I was not prepared for the sun and my arms are sunburned. They are probably worse than they look because my skin soaks up sun — it doesn’t really show a burn. My face is burned a little, too, but I had on makeup with sunscreen in it, so it’s not bad. I hope. (I haven’t looked in a mirror yet this morning.)
We didn’t eat much all day or drink enough water. Fail. Around 3:30 or so, we went to “lupper” and I ate almost an entire plate of nachos by myself. That’s a lot of cheese and beans.
Last night, I was so sick! I think it was a combo of too much sun (I know and after all my complaining about the rain…), not enough water and too much food at once. (This morning, though, I’m feeling much better.)
Best find yesterday: $1 kids soccer ball. T Junior was thrilled. “THANK YOU, MOMMY!” We played last night as the clouds and rain rolled back in.
Tomorrow, I have an appointment with a physical therapist recommended by Suzanne, one of my fabulous MvM Facebook friends. The rec went something like this: “She got me from walking with a cane to Boston in a couple months.” What a review!
I didn’t get in with the same woman because she’s full, but I got in with someone at the same clinic. It’s in the city, so it will be a long drive, but Chelsea‘s going to meet me there and be my parental guardian at the appointment.
I admit I am sort of excited for the appointment. I wanted to be a physical therapist. That was the plan…until I had to take chemistry. I was 17 years old and sitting in the class not understanding a single thing, and I thought, “No way. Can’t do it.” I changed my major and withdrew from the class. Dummy! I wish I would’ve stuck it out. I wish I’d been a little bit older and had more confidence in myself. Oh well, things happen for a reason.
So what do you wear to a physical therapy appointment anyway? Running clothes? Any first-timer tips? Anyone want to babysit for me?

I thought about you at the start of my run yesterday. I don't want to encourage running while injured, but I also often have shin pain while starting out, but it seems to shake itself out within a mile or so.For physio, I wear comfortable clothes and the running shoes I run in. Might also be worth bringing your regular shoes you wear the most often.Good luck!
Ibuprofining and lupper. Haha. And, yes, Ali and I want to babysit for you, but we live too far away. Dang.
Yay for no shin pain! I hope the PT is able to give some answers/solutions.
I had PT awhile back. I wore jogging pant and took a pair of shorts encase I need to change. I sure hope they can help you with your shins .
Considering I work in a PT clinic let me help you!! You should wear shorts (if they are looking at your legs:) and take your running shoes with you. Most therapist will look at you standing, how you walk, and how you run. Sometimes we can get info on the tread of your shoes as well (like where your wear patterns are). If you have orthotics you should take them as well!!! Good luck!!
New to your blog. And let me say, the fact that you find the time to run so much and be a mom is utterly amazing. For PT, loose comfortable clothes and you usual running shoes. Just make sure you don't wear anything tight that you cant stretch in or have full mobility.
I would totally take T-Jr if I wasn't in Chicago! (teach my guy how to dance?) Wear shorts tomorrow so they can check you out & take your running shoes + orthods.
Hope your PT appointment went well! I basically wear my usual workout or running clothes to the PT because it ends up being a pretty good workout for me (read: gobs of sweat).
I have a PT apt. for Friday. . . I have Piriformis Syndrome and SI Joint Dysfunction. . . yay for Rock-N-Roll — this otta feel great! I was thinking I would wear my running gear too — not sure what to expect (besides pain). 😉
