Where Are My Shoes?!

  • Kerrie

Well, the marathon nightmares have started.

Last night’s: I lived in Pullman (where I went to college) and I got to the race on time, parked, etc. It was all so easy. Then I realized I didn’t have my Garmin or my SHOES. I had to drive back to my dorm to get them!

But of course there was traffic and then I took a wrong turn and I knew I was going to miss the pre-race meet-up. The dream actually woke me up before 5. Then I tossed and turned for 40 minutes before getting up to get ready to run (in the rain) with Chelsea, which is where I’m headed now.

Now that I think about the dream, though, it’s funny. How would you forget your shoes for a marathon?

It HAS happened. I listen to a podcast (Running with the Pack) where the host forgot his shoes but realized it at the hotel, before heading to the start. He had to run 26.2 miles in his buddy's wife's pink shoes! Now I double- and triple-check my bag before every race. I've forgotten other stuff, but never the shoes!Hope you're having a good run. I'm headed out for a rainy run too.

I hate those 'forgetting' dreams. I get them all the time before something big. When I was showing horses, my dream always included forgetting my boots (and sometimes my horse). Breathe.

Reminds me of the day I stepped outside my front door for a run wearing my Crocs. Oops!

That's hilarious. I can't tell you how many times before a race I look at everything for the 50th time to make sure I have it. It's like when you can't find your glasses and they're on top of your head 🙂 Running makes us crazy. haha.

I *always* set out *everything* the night before. Shorts, shirt (with bib pinned) socks, drink, fuel, etc.etc.etc. Then I check it. I actually get completely dressed, then check it again, and then, and only then, get ready for bed. I once forgot my fuel. But only once….

Someone I know once drove all the way to a race, got out of the car and realized she was wearing her slippers. True story!!!

It almost happened to me. I was driving from Seattle to the NODM in Sequim and I packed everything and was in the car ready to go when I came back into the house to do one last potty break and my mom just in passing joked “I hope you packed your shoes” and then I realized that I had left them at the front door!

I apologize in advance if you have the 'running like you're attached to a sled of weights' dream that I had….
