One of the things I didn’t realize about having a treadmill in my home is how much more I would sweat on it than I did on the ones in the gym.
Why is that?
The first time I ran on it in my bedroom, I ran in capris and a tank top. I almost died. The second time, I ran in a running skirt and a sports bra. My inner-thighs almost died. They looked like I rubbed sandpaper all over them then doused them with scalding McDonald’s coffee.
Even with minimal clothing, I sweat like a…well, like a chick running on a treadmill near a heating vent in her house in the winter.
So it was a complete blessing when the company 2Toms asked me to review their anti-chafing products, ButtShield and SportShield. Learn more about them HERE.
The first thing I noticed about the products (other than the word “butt” is in the name, which made me snicker like a 6-year-old), was that its consistency is different than any other anti-chafe product I’ve used. It is more liquid than solid, but not like a lotion. In fact, it’s slick like oil, but not oily, and you apply it by rolling it on. It didn’t ruin my clothes or the wood on my dresser (when I realized I’d gotten some on there). And it washes off of my skin easily with soap and water.
Be warned that the roll-on bottle must leak a tiny bit (which is how it got on my dresser), but I was happy that it didn’t leave any marks or stains! Just wiped it off with one of Mr. T’s socks. No worries.
When I put SportShield on for the first 3-mile test run, I was ready for it not to work. I don’t know why. I guess I’m a skeptic.
I love being proven wrong. Wait. No I don’t. But I do in this case. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve tested both products up to five sweaty running-skirt, thigh-rubbing miles on the treadmill and have had no chafing. In fact, not even an inkling of a chafe.
The true test, however, came on Sunday’s 10 miles. My toes. (Insert climactic music here.) I get a pretty nasty blister between my big (freakish toe, as Mr. T says) and second toe on my right foot for whatever reason. I used ButtShield between them on Sunday. (Hehehehehe. I said “butt.”)
When I got home and removed my sock, I could see that the little blister I already had there was puffed up a little bit, but it didn’t hurt and it wasn’t any bigger than it was already. Then, after my ice bath and a shower, and once my feet dried, I saw there was NO NEW blistering and NO PAIN. Hooray!
I definitely give ButtShield and SportShield a big toes- and thighs-up.
And, check, it out: I have three prize packs from 2Toms to give away! Three of you will get a 2Toms care package including 1 bottle of ButtShield, 1 bottle of SportShield and 1 bottle of Stink Free (so your shoes won’t smell like something died in them anymore). There are lots of ways to enter:

Worst chaffing-I was late for a race, and put bodyglide on my legs, but didn't think about under my arms since it had never been a problem. It was a really hot day for a half marathon, and I was sweating a lot. I realize at about mile 5 I was chaffing under my arms, but there wsn't a lot I could do about it. By the end of the race it was so bad, it hurt to lift my arms. It had seriously never happened on a training run. It was scabbed over for weeks, and actually left a slight scar. Crazy weird! And a surprisingly painful spot-especially when teaching ballet and raising your arms over and over. Ow.

I'm a follower! :)OMG I am currently recovering from my worst chafe experience yet… I was way to embarrassed to blog it, but I'll share here. I came home from Bootcamp last weekend and I had a raw patch of flesh at the top of my butt crack!! (sorry, TMI) It took me forever to figure otu what caused it but I'm pretty sure it's from spending several minutes on the mat doing various crunches with a strategically placed tag in my undies!! OMG I could not sit or lay down properly for days. :S

I follow… and I am no stranger to chaffing! Funny cause I get the same blister on my right foot as you describe – only on long runs! Odd. But mostly underarms and inner thighs. If I don't run in compression shorts, I chaff. No butts about it (opps, I said “butt” too!! hee, hee). So you see I totally need this stuff!

I totally like you on FB. 🙂
I follow you. I still have scars on my shoulders and ribcage from wounds received from a running bra I wore in a half marathon last summer.
Follow you on FB.
Linking your awesome giveaway on my blog under “imaginary giveaways”.
I like you on FB!My worst chafing experience came from my hydration belt, right above my rear, and I had to wear loose pants and long tops for a week. Super slouchy is not a great allover look. Now I lube up my midsection when I plan to wear the belt.
OK, I will be the first guy (since you said it wouldn't be creepy!)Yes, we have all kinds of chafing issues as well. I have some nice pictures to prove some of my more exciting nipple issues, but I will save those for another day!My most recent in memory was a long run a few months back. I think it was either one of my 18 or 20 milers and it was starting to cool off in late Oct, early Nov so I didn't think to put (other stuff) on EVERYWHERE! I knew I had a little chafing going on during the run, but I didn't know I could chafe in all the places I did until I got into the shower – OUCH!I will leave it at that in mixed company.

It is so funny, makes me laugh.
I'm a follower and one of my worst chafe experiences came when I was getting my annual exam and my doc was doing my breast exam. She asks me, did you have a breast biopsy recently? Umm, no! Chafe marks hard core!

I'm already a follower! I'm lucky I don't have too much problem with chafing except on my toes! I have one of those “freakishly big toes” like you 🙂

I follow ya! My inner thighs touch naturally, and when I went on a particularly muggy 4 mile run a few years back, my cheap running shorts tried to light a fire between my legs (um, that's what she said?). It was so bad that I was bleeding!

I follow you!!The back of my arms rub quite a bit to the point i can't even run and have to do funny stuff – only on the treadmill which makes it worse! I haven't had it bleed yet- but i know it will one day!! That and my new introduction to marathon training is butt chafing. that was a new experience.. a painful one!

I follow your blog! And my worst story isn't about me but my husband. The other day, after a VERY cold winter, it was really warm, in the 60's and he wore more winter-type clothing, including boxers. I came into the kitchen and there was a blood spot on the floor! He was having some serious chafing from his poor clothing choice and didn't even know it, ack!
