I don’t have a lot of time but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their sweet comments yesterday and share a quick update. I’m feeling TONS better today. TONS.
My sports podiatrist appointment this morning was great. The soreness I was experiencing is normal and is just fine as long as it goes away the next day. As long as it doesn’t stick around, I’m all good. Yay!
I also asked how you know when you’re done healing and I was basically told I have to wait the 12 weeks from when I stopped running completely, which was three weeks ago. So, nine more weeks without running. At least I know I can continue on the elliptical and the bike.
And I’m going to be doing more pool work: swimming and water running. I might even do the swimming leg of a tri this fall, which would be super fun!
I got molds taken of my feet and the doctor looked at my legs. “Mmmmmhmmm,” he said to himself. “Well, that’s your biggest problem right there.”
Turns out I have hip anteversion (acetabular anteversion I think officially — it’s genetic, too, so I didn’t do it to myself which is good to know). Essentially, this is when your hips are tilted in and it makes your thighs and knees turn in. But the lower leg is normal. This puts a lot of stress on the insides of your lower legs. The custom orthotics will help straighten out my knees. I’m so excited to get them!
We also talked a lot about barefoot running, but I’ll have to save that for another day. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Coming soon: Barefoot Kerrie T. vs. MarathonCan't wait.Glad to hear that there is a potential solution for your ills. Nine weeks without running seems like For-E-ver but still, it's a means to an end, right?
So glad you got some good news this morning…Keep up with the great attitude!
YAY! So glad to hear! I think it would be kind of fun to visit the sports podiatrist (just not under the terms that you are.) 🙂
Glad to hear a little bit of hope – be good and take the prescribed time off! That would be the hardest part for me.
Glad you're feeling better about things and that the appointment went well. Sounds like these orthotics could make a world of difference!have a great weekend!
I'm glad your appointment went well! Hopefully the orthotics will work magic:) Happy friday!
I'm so glad they were positive about your recovery time. I'm very curious to hear what they say about barefoot running because I keep wondering if what I'm doing is all hooey. I checked out the tri (sprint, right?) in Black Diamond this fall. I'm not sure when it might fill up so we might want to talk more seriously about that soon 🙂 I think it would be a blast! You're doing a great job keeping up with the cross-training and not just being a summer couch potato. It's so hard to stay motived when you're not doing exactly what you want…and when you're stuck indoors. Keep it up Kerrie – it will all pay off!
Good news with the doc; can't wait to hear how the orthotics work for you…I think they'll be your magic wand :). Nice job on all the cross training, you studette, you!!I just returned from my 3 day trip in the mts and oh lordy…time to get back on the “diet” – ugh!
Ok! 9 weeks to go! You can do it!! So glad you are getting things “straightened out”!!
