My alarm clock went off at 5 this morning. It was dark and cool in my room, plus I had a little drool on my pillowcase, so I know I slept good. I was tired, but my body felt okay considering my strength training last night.
I drove to work with travel cup full of my second serving of coffee. And, then, I got there and a co-worker brought doughnuts. And, another co-worker made pumpkin bread. Dude! I kept thinking about completely ignored all the sugary carbo-y goodness only four feet from my desk. I managed to deny myself for the first few hours, but I totally caved around 10. Mmmm. Sprinkles.
Anyway, I did remember to drink lots of water — good for hydration and also if you need to get up and move (more trips to refill cup or to visit the potty). The longer I sat, the more I noticed my sore muscles — my stomach mostly and whatever those ones in your armpits are. Also, I knew if I didn’t drink my fluids, I’d be dying during tonight’s 3-mile run.
But I almost didn’t make it on the run because after work I got held up chatting with T Junior’s day care provider. She just returned from a week of vacation, so we had some catching up to do. Then, at home, I needed to put T Junior in something a bit more appropriate for the cooler weather than a short-sleeved summer romper. The forecast was for sun and mid-70s, and we got overcast and maaaaybe 65.
I almost gave up. It was just taking so long to get out the door. It was 5:40 and I’m usually making dinner around 6:20 in order to get on with the bedtime routine. I went, though, because I absolutely hate not finishing something on my list of things to do. Plus, I was pretty sure we would be back in time. I decided to do the section of the trail closest to home last so that if it was getting too late, then we’d just stop.
That’s what we ended up doing because I was dragging T Junior was cranky. So, technically, I only made it 2.88 miles, according to MapMyRun.com. That’s close enough for me because, boy, did I struggle. My calves ached with each step. I’m pretty sure it was the soreness that affected me because I didn’t feel winded or exhausted.
It was just really hard to pick up my legs. Kinda need those for running.

Legs? Naw, you don't need 'em for running. ;)The fact that you went running even though you weren't feeling 100% means a ton. And the cooler temps are great, aren't they??
Good job on getting out on your run even though you were a little sore and full of yummy stuff. WHY DO CO-WORKERS FEEL THE NEED TO BRING YUMMY STUFF WHEN THEY KNOW YOU'RE TRYING? Last week at work, they had a tray full of my favourite biscuits which avoided all shift – then my boss (that's right, my boss!) just started throwing them onto my desk! I chucked them out, but I keep finding crumbs I hadn't cleaned away to remind me of how yummy they are. Gr.
Wow, Mel. I would've taken those and thrown them right back at your boss. That is NOT cool. Thanks for the encouragement, ladies!
