Too bad I haven’t had a half marathon every day this week because I have sure been eating like I do. Do not challenge me to a carb-loading contest. You will lose just like the Huskies did in the Apple Cup tonight. #burn #gocougs
I don’t have a plan for Sunday except to finish in 2 hours or less. But, like, seriously no plan. I still haven’t decided what I’m wearing. Probably my silver Team Sparkle skirt, though, because it is flashy and fun, and it is fun to pass dudes while wearing it. The weather is supposed to be dry, but it’ll probably be pretty freakin’ cold at the 7 a.m. start.
The Seattle Half was my first in 2009. I think I finished around 2:24, so if all goes well, it’ll be a course PR. I ran that half in a pair of mistakes I picked out at DSW, without even a simple watch to see how much time had gone by, and I over-hydrated just like my dogs do before they puke it all back up on the floor.
Since I know what I’m doing now, it should be a pretty good race. Of course, there are no guarantees in life and running.
This week, certainly, has proven that. Monday night, my son let us know he had the flu…by barfing at the top of the stairs. He was better by Thanksgiving morning. But I have been scrubbing my hands and disinfecting every single day, and living in fear of flu contraction. I barely have any skin left on my hands. The skin I do have left on my fingertips is so rough you could grate cheddar cheese with them.
I wouldn’t really call what I’ve been doing this past week as tapering. And this training cycle doesn’t count as a training cycle either. I’ve just been running when I can. But mostly, I’ve been not running. I did get a run in on Wednesday. It was pouring, but my legs felt super fresh. Sub-9’s felt very easy. Probably since I hadn’t run since Saturday.
I’m hoping not running since Wednesday will lead to an easy sub-9 pace on Sunday. Also hoping pecan pie counts as pre-race fuel.

I also have been carb-loading like I’m running an ultra marathon this weekend, instead of the half I’m not even trained to run!!! Should go well! 🙂
Good luck on Sunday! Just caught the last 10 minutes of the game after our plane landed. Woohoo! Go Cougs!! So exciting:)
Good Luck this Sunday!
Good luck! I am sure you will do great. Sometimes a super taper is really what I need. Enjoy it!
Good luck for your race!
Looks like the weather will be PERFECT! Have a great race!
