Half PR: Sub-2 Baby, Yeah!

  • Kerrie

Mini recap of the You Go Girl! Half Marathon from my DailyMile page:

Yay! Sub-2 PR accomplished! And in the rain, too! Mini race recap: Before the race, the plan was to stick between a 9- 9:10-min/mile pace at first, and then bust out the mid-8’s or so for the second half. BUT the first mile is sort of downhill…and then the 2:00 pacer was WAY fast making me think I was behind for some reason, so when I passed her (again) around the 10K, I just made it my mission in life to stay in front of her. Worked to my advantage, but I felt bad for anyone relying on her. Glad to see her a ways behind me at the turn-around. LOL! I kept speedy Jamie R. in my sights as much as possible today (she had an amazing PR today, too), and let her be my inspiration.

1: 8:24 (trying not to let the downhill and the adrenaline get the best of me too early)
2: 8:09 (oops)
3: 8:56 (smiling as I remembered running with Chelsea and pregnant Zoe here last year)
4: 9:03 (I do believe this was the very steep uphill — I walked a few steps — took a gel at top)
5: 7:42 (what goes up, must come down — wheee! just tried not to get out of control and slip)
6: 8:26 (running hard because people around me were truckin’…then they all turned off at the 10K finish. DUDE)
7: 8:36
8: 8:47 (followed someone who looked just like Zoรซ A.
9: 8:50 (wondering why the leaders hadn’t come back in the opposite direction yet)
10: 8:38 (took another gel)
11: 8:46 (saw a sign that said “no cruising,” laughed and tried to step it up)
12: 8:53 (telling myself that if I can run on 1 hour of sleep — Hood to Coast — then I’ve got this)
13: 8:49
.1: 7:14 pace

Had a blast being around my friends before and after, and seeing them on the course. Thank you, Alma and Tressa for coming to cheer! It was great to see you, Jill E., Diana M., Kim R., Stacie D., Carla S., Julie, Jamie, and so many more out on the course!!!

And a special thank you to Coach Mel (Tall Mom) for helping me blow my goal out of the water with her magical sub-2 plan and encouragement

Thank you all so much for all the comments, texts, messages, etc.! Really felt the love!

Congrats! I LOVE reading the signs…and I'm particularly amused by streets signs…speed limit when I'm rocking out a 13:00 minute mile?! Funny stuff.
